Croghan Athletic Club has raised a whopping €1550 for mental health charity - Talk To Tom - through their recent event - The Croghan Chase.

The fantastically organised 4k and 8k races held on December 30 raised a total of €3100 for both groups combined.

In a social media post the Athletics Club said: "Croghan AC are delighted to announce the outcome of our recent fund-raiser - The Croghan Chase 4k and 8k 2018.

"We would like to thank the sponsorship we received from a multitude of local businesses and individuals, our participants and our fantastic raffle.

"We managed to raise a grand total of €3,100 for our chosen charity, Talk To Tom and Croghan Athletics Club," the post continued.

"Ray Cullen (CEO Talk To Tom) showed members of the Croghan AC committee around their fantastic facility on Saturday.

"Ray confirmed that the money raised has been earmarked already, and will go directly towards helping vulnerable children and young adults who are suffering with mental health issues.

"Croghan AC would like to extend a massive thanks to Ray and his fantastic team of volunteers in Talk to Tom for allowing us to come on board and help raise these important funds."

Talk To Tom have said they are reliant on local groups to help support their services.

"We can't thank Croghan Athletics Club and all those who took part and supported their event - enough," said Mr Cullen.

"As we have previously highlighted we receive no state funding - so we are reliant on the support of the community - in order to serve our community," he added.

"This January has been the busiest month for us since our inception - so these funds have come just in the nick of time to ensure our doors stay open to those in need."
